Started work as an analyst in 1973 at Wako Economic Research Institute (now Nikko Securities), specializing in chemicals, foods and pharmaceuticals. In 1985, completed the Advance Management Program at Wharton School of Business in Pennsylvania, USA. In 1987, became a senior analyst, specializing in materials, at Lehman Brothers Securities. In 1994, became a senior analyst at UBS Securities, specializing in chemicals. Joined Mizuho Secuities Co.Ltd in June 2003.
Mr. Ishihara believes in the importance of the principle of indifference in the materials market and stresses the importance of keeping a close eye on global demand as a means to accurately determine the top and bottom of the cycle. He is especially interested in the market trends of the coastal regions of China, which have a population four times greater than that of Japan.
